Problem Statement:

The mental health issue during the Covid-19 crisis has reached an unprecedented level especially with the increase in suicide cases where more than 80% were women. Religious talks and activities that would have alleviated the mental health problem are now being conducted as online sessions which can be limited in their effectiveness partly due to online fatigue. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in providing mental health and psychosocial services for Covid-19 response in quarantine stations had been set up in April 2020 but none had been prepared for the work from home situation especially for working women.

Value(s) and Belief(s):

Need to create work-life balance environment for working women and mothers. Also need to educate the public regarding mental health issue and to dispel the taboo of receiving treatments from mental health medical practitioners.

Proposal of Solution:

1. Comprehensive plan of action to tackle this issue for women working from home during the pandemic and in post-pandemic phase.
2. Increase number of qualified counsellors under the ministry and state government.
3. Make the psychological and psychiatric treatments more accessible.
4. Include the topic of mental health in the school syllabus from primary school.
